Affordable Super-Looking Motorcycle Car: KTM X-Bow roadster Only US$55,000

I saw this car once on the street in Hong Kong. The driver said he gets some troubles when it rains, because it has no top and windshield. A drive must need a helmet to drive this car! Just drive this car like a motorbike.

Anyway, KTM first revealed its new X-Bow roadster in 2007, but sales didn't begin until 2008. The 1500-pound car has a four-cylinder Audi engine offering 237 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 228 pound-feet of torque between 2200 and 4000 rpm. Audi reportedly considered selling a version of the X-Bow under its own brand, but later dropped the idea.

A choice of either a six-speed manual or DSG gearbox is offered. KTM says the X-Bow will hit 62 mph in 3.9 seconds. A top speed of 180 mph is said to be possible.

The X-Bow has no windshield, and instead will come with a helmets, intended to offer shelter from the elements rather than full crash protection.

KTM originally intended to build 500 X-Bows annually but has already received orders for over 1,000 examples. Pricing starts around US$55,000 in the United States.

Between the X-Bow and the Ariel Atom, it appears as though more companies are attempting to offer supercar performance at a more main-stream price. While the new entrants don't offer the luxury or prestige of more expensive sports car, they do rival their performance numbers.

Although it remains to be seen if the new breed of ultra-light and affordable sports cars can sustain their popularity, the news of KTM's expansion seems to be good news for the segment.

Eicma 2012: HUSQVARNA Nuda 900 & 900R

HUSQVARNA is a formerly Swedish, but now an Italian and BMW-owned manufacturer. The company debuted its new Nuda 900 and 900R models in Milan. KTM Motocross Review: 2012 KTM 450SX-F

The 2011 KTM 450 is a powerhouse and, for obvious reasons, the 2012 is as well. The two years are not totally identical. KTM has made several changes in the right direction to address issues that some of us experienced.

The most obvious is the new single spring clutch. The basket is a one-piece unit, meaning the outer gear and the basket is all one chunk of carved-out steel. The inner unit has a single diaphragm spring compared to several coil springs.

Also, the new 450 SX-F model is now equipped with Dunlop MX51 tires.

It was a brutally cold November of 1941. The Nazis were at the outskirts of Moscow, preparing for the all-in assault on the Soviet capital. At the same moment, in a small town of Irbit, located on the eastern slopes of the Ural Mountains, 2000kms away from Moscow, a freight train arrived with the machinery, materials, and drawing boards. With this train came people with an impossible task to build a factory in the middle of a Siberian winter and produce combat sidecar motorcycles for the Red Army.

The first M72's built by the Irbit Factory were sent to the front lines in February of 1942 and were used by the troops in the Battle of Stalingrad.



After the war the factory continued producing motorcycles with sidecars and built over 3 million outfits. People who laid the foundation of the factory would have never imagined that 70 years later this factory would remain the only sidecar motorcycle manufacturer in the world and Ural would become a cult motorcycle.
