It features Kayaba front forks, and Sachs rear shocks, allowing 6.7-inches and 5.9-inches of flex respectively. The shocks on the Hypermotard SP stretches out even more.

The 2013 Ducati Diavel Strada, a revised-for-2013 version of the Diavel cruiser bike, now offers a larger windscreen, slightly higher handlebars with heated grips, gel seat, and a higher capacity generator powering two 12-volt ports.

For the upcoming year, the Ducati 1199 Panigale R sports bike now features a 500 rpm rev-boost, a four-point adjustable swing-arm, and a full racing exhaust and ECU. Rated for 201 hp, Ducati claims a 15-percent increase in mid-range power.

2013 Cagiva Mito SP525

There are not too many bikes which will set the pulse of a learner rider racing as quickly as a Cagiva Mito, which offers a level of street cred for younger riders that other bikes will struggle to match.

The Mito first came out in the early ’90s and has been the recipient of a number of changes in styling and to keep it up to date mechanically.

Powering the Mito is a 125cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine with a bore of 56mm and a short stroke of 50.6mm. It’s liquid-cooled, has reed valve fuel induction and there’s an electronically controlled power valve to control exhaust port timing.

A six speed transmission is used with a wet clutch to get the power to the ground in true racer fashion.

An alloy double cradle chassis is used to house the compact engine and of course take the rest of the rolling stock, like the Marzocchi forks, Sachs shock, single 320mm disc with four-piston

The fuel tank holds 14 litres with two-stroke oil stored in a handy reservoir under the fuel tank which hinges up easily.

Its light weight makes negotiating peak hour traffic easier, and the power band makes for fun take-offs from pole position at the lights.

Time cutting-edge costs, and at US$8995 the Mito ’aint cheap. However, this is a serious European sportsbike, offering high performance, awesome styling and quality ancillaries, so the price can be justified.

2013 KTM Two-Stroke Off-Road Models Recalled

2013 KTM Two-Stroke Off-Road Models Recalled

KTM has initiated a recall on 2013 two-stroke off-road motorcycles because of a problem with the throttle cable.  The models affected are the 125 EXC, 125 EXC Six Days, 125 SX, 150 SX, 150, XC, 200 EXC, 200 XC-W, 250 EXC, 250 EXC Six Days, 250 SX, 250 XC, 250 XC-W, 300 EXC, 300 EXC Six Days, 300 XC, 300 XC-W, 85 SX, and 85 SXS.

According to KTM, the throttle cable on affected models can get pinched between the throttle cable wheel and the top of the throttle housing assembly. This flaw may result in the loss of throttle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

KTM says the problem was due to an improperly-produced upper throttle housing from a supplier. A replacement throttle housing has been designed to address the problem. Authorized KTM dealers will replace the throttle housing and the throttle cable wheel. The repair should take about 10 minutes and will be done free of charge to consumers.

Customers are asked to visit the Service section of KTM’s website where they can enter their motorcycle’s 17-digit VIN to determine whether their bikes are affected by this or any other recall.

2013 Honda MSX125 Motorcycle

Honda announced a new 125cc motorcycle aimed for youths that draws its inspiration from the Honda Monkey mini-bikes first introduced in the ’60s.

The new 2013 Honda MSX125 will be manufactured in Thailand. At the moment, it has been confirmed for Europe and Japan, but there is no word about U.S. availability.

The MSX125 is powered by a 125cc air-cooled two-valve single-cylinder engine with Honda‘s PGM-FI fuel injection system inherited from the Honda Wave 125i underbone motorcycle that’s popular in Asian markets.

Honda claims an output of 9.7 hp at 7000 rpm and 8.0 ft-lb. at 5,500 rpm. The engine has some low-friction features such as an offset cylinder and roller-rocker arms. This should help the MSX125 provide good fuel economy though Honda did not release any fuel consumption estimates.

Honda registered four new patents in develop the MSX125, specifically related to the split structure tank cover and the steel mono-backbone frame. The split structure allowed Honda engineers to position the PGM-FI components and other electrical parts inside the tank cover without compromising the capacity of the 1.45 gallon fuel tank.
