2013 KTM Duke 690 R presented at EICMA 2012

KTM now have a Duke for the entire range with the addition of the Duke 390 and the soon to be announced Super Duke street versions, but amongst all the hype over the Super Duke prototype and the Duke 390 there was another Duke that got a refresher, the Duke 690. KTM presented an ‘R’ version of the Duke 690 at the EICMA in Milan this year, this ‘R’ version takes in most of the upgrades used on the 690 for the European Junior Cup.

The KTM Duke 690 R gets a fully adjustable front and rear suspension, new wheels, reinforcements to the chassis, a translucent air box cover and an Akrapovic exhaust system. The engine now produces 70HP. The braking department also gets updates with a four piston calliper at front and an ABS system that can be switched off. The handle and the foot pegs have also been adjusted for a more race oriented seating.

KTM Preview: 2013 KTM RC8 R

The Intermot as expected is unveiling to us almost all the top manufacturers line for the year 2013. The folks at KTM have used this international platform to announce the updated version of its V-twin superbike the 2013 RC8 R and the RC8 Track.

The 2013 KTM RC8 is the ultimate power tool from KTM. Their designers pulled out all the stops in the art of engine building when it came to the 1190 RC8 R 2013. The rider has one of the most powerful V2 engines of our times and one of the best chassis in the world at his or her disposal - totally street-legal.

With the precision to cut out the others when entering the corner. With the power and traction to pull away from them exiting the corner. With the feedback and ergonomics to enjoy the 1190 RC8 R 2013 to the full.

The KTM RC8 R gets updates to its Keihin engine management system for better power delivery, a new and improved slipper clutch and a recalibrated suspension system. The RC8 Track produces 180 HP and is a track machine purely for the enthusiasts.

It is still surprising that KTM still has not given both these bikes a substantial upgrade in these times of immense competition especially from top contenders like the BMW HP4 and the Panigale.

BMW Review: 2013 BMW Motorrad R1200R

BMW announced eight models returning for 2013, all receiving new colors and ABS as standard. Beyond that, the most notable news is what models have not been announced.

The returning 2013 BMW models include the F800R, the G650GS, the R1200R, the S1000RR, the K1300S, the K1300R, the K1600GT and K1600GTL. These eight models join the previously-announced F800GS and F700GS as well as the C600 Sport and C650GT maxi-scooters.

Noticeably absent are BMW’s top-selling R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure and the R1200RT. We already know BMW is developing a liquid-cooled replacement for the R1200GS so its absence from the 2013 lineup announcement is not a surprise.

The R1200RT’s absence may mean it too is getting an update, likely using the same liquid-cooled engine. Also not mentioned are the naked version of the S1000RR or the other boxer engined roadster recently spotted by spy photographers.

Motocross: 2013 Yamaha YZ250F

The 2013 Yamaha YZ250F comes with amazing balance, a powerful and light-handling machine with performance that’s accessible to all levels of riders.

Comparing with previous YZ250F, the optimized engine pumps out power in the 8,000 to 12,000 RPM range with outstanding throttle response, and it is ready to compete with other same class in 2013 products such as Kawasaki KX250F, Honda CRF250R, and KTM 250 SXF.

It is equipped with bilateral beam frame which has a rigidity balance for superior cornering performance as well as great stability on rough, high-speed straights. The KYB® suspension is tuned to work with the bilateral beam frame for unmatched handling.

The sharp horizontal lines set the bike apart with a clean and aggressive look, and the styling emphasizes the bike’s lightweight and nimble handling character. CDI mapping and a big 39mm carb with free breathing air cleaner cage, vibration-reducing counterbalancer, connecting rod, and low-friction piston rings, and others new features equipped. 2013 BMW Motorrad F 700 GS and BMW F 800 GS

BMW’s F-series model family includes four motorcycles powered by the company’s 798cc parallel twin engine: F 800 R, F 800 ST, F 650 GS and F 800 GS.

When BMW decided to update the two models in its popular GS enduro line, it also looked to clear up some confusion over model names. Despite being powered by the same 798cc engine, though in different states of tune, BMW’s street-oriented enduro is called the F 650 GS and its more offroad-oriented enduro is called the F 800 GS.

The transverse, liquid-cooled parallel twin that powers the F 700 GS and the F 800 GS has four valves per cylinder, electronic fuel injection, a closed-loop catalytic converter and a 6-speed gearbox. It features an additional connecting rod that serves as a counterbalancer to smooth out vibration.

In the F 800 GS, the engine is tuned to deliver the same claimed 85 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 61 lb-ft of torque at 5,750 rpm as before. The F 700 GS generates a claimed 75 horsepower at 7,300 rpm and 57 lb-ft of torque at 5,500 rpm, up 4 horsepower and 2 lb-ft from the F 650 GS.

The F 700 GS also features a shorter overall gear ratio for quicker acceleration. The steel tubular frame that uses the engine as a stressed member, steel subframe, aluminum swingarm, wheels (cast on F 700 GS, spoked on F 800 GS) are unchanged.

The new F 700 GS gets a second disc brake on the front wheel, like the F 800 GS, and both models are fitted as standard with BMW Motorrad two-channel ABS. Two popular options have been added for the first time in this middleweight segment—Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) and Automatic Stability Control (ASC), or traction control.

ESA allows the rider to conveniently set rebound damping of the rear shock at the press of a button on the handlebars, with the settings “Comfort,” “Normal” or “Sport” available. Unlike other BMW models where ESA is offered, spring preload for the rear shock is set by hand, using a remote adjuster knob. ASC prevents unwanted spinning of the rear wheel while accelerating, which could result in the loss of lateral grip and a slide.

The new F 700 GS and F 800 GS also feature the latest generation of BMW Motorrad switchgear, which is more compact and offers improved ergonomics. They also get new instrumentation that’s easier to read and offers more information, including fuel level and coolant temperature.

Styling updates include new side trim, a new handlebar clamp and windscreen for the F 700 GS, and smoke gray turn signals and LED taillight covers. BMW has also increased its range of options and accessories, including a low suspension kit for the F 800 GS.

The F 700 GS will be offered in Red apple metallic, Ostra grey metallic matt and Glacier silver metallic, and the F 800 GS will be offered in Kalamata metallic matt, Cordoba blue and Alpine white.
